Terence Oliver is an award-winning motion graphics producer who joined the School of Media and Journalism at the University of North Carolina in 2010 and teaches information graphics, magazine design, graphic design and motion graphics. Oliver created and taught the first-ever motion graphics courses in journalism in the U.S.

Oliver also has taught digital design courses at Ohio University, Kent State University and the Poynter Institute. Before teaching, he held the assistant managing editor and art director posts at the Akron Beacon Journal, was an editorial artist at the Cleveland Plain Dealer and worked in advertising.

For his creative work, Oliver has won more than 50 international, national and state awards from prestigious competitions such as the Society for News Design, Print Magazine, Creativity and others. Oliver had important roles in two Pulitzer Prize awards for the Question of Color series at The Akron Beacon Journal and Hurricane Andrew series at The Miami Herald.

To stay on top with his creative work and innovation, Oliver regularly adds to his craft by leading motion graphic projects for clients, such as Fidelity, AT&T, The Museum of Life & Science, complexstories.com and others. For his innovative teaching of motion graphics and iPad magazine production, Oliver was the MJ-school’s 2012 winner of the Edward Vick Prize for Innovation in Teaching Award and the 2016 winner of the school's David Brinkley Teaching Excellence Award.

Oliver endeavors to positively impact the life of each student he encounters and lives by the mantra: “To make a difference, be the difference.”
