A fireside chat between John Keefe of Quartz and Angelica McKinley of Slack exploring how media organizations and the different teams within them can effectively utilize digital tools like Slack to integrate newsroom tools and processes. Quartz leverages a variety of digital tools to enable its journalists to report the news faster and with great accuracy, but it also feels it has a responsibility to take on a larger mission of supporting organizations that lack onsite developers by granting them access to such open-source journalism tools. To that end, Quartz built Quackbot, an open-source Slack bot that performs tasks journalists do often such as finding reliable data and proofreading stories.

Drawing on her experience in digital storytelling at The New York Times and brand design at Slack, Angelica McKinley will discuss with John Keefe how coverage desks and visual journalism teams can leverage digital tools with Slack to improve their workflows, connect with readers and collaborate with internal and external departments.
