Visualizing the composition of a large collection of data points is a common problem when explaining news. Whether you're explaining demographics, visualizing sports statistics, or looking at you're site's analytics data, using simple averages often hides trends or can even be misleading. In this workshop we'll walk through more informative ways of visualizing the distribution of data with D3 using histograms and less traditional visuals that make the data more relatable to the reader. To illustrate these visuals, we'll use online traffic data from Parse.ly's network of thousands of publishers representing billions of user interactions.

This workshop is for anyone working on visualizations for print or the web. Introductory level experience with D3.js is best for this workshop. If you have not previously worked with D3.js, attendance of the "Visualizing data with D3" workshop on Thursday is perfect to get you ready for this workshop. To follow along during the workshop, you will need a laptop that's able to connect to the internet and a Github account.
